Splendour Festival 17
Following the marking of my industry portfolio at University, my tutor offered me the opportunity to work at the front of house on main stage. My role would primarily be to monitor the levels for each advert that Notts TV broadcast between each set and to ensure that all music played between sits at a reasonable level which meets the councils noise management requirements and guidelines. I was given the responsibility to not only mix all adverts and music but to ensure that the presenter could be heard at all times. I was able to communicate directly with the Notts TV team that were broadcasting from their van in order to ensure that the signal flow was working correctly and so i was able to add a crossfade between the adverts and the music at the correct times. This ensured that there was never a downtime whereby there was silence in the field.
Througout each of the bands or artists sets i was able to shadow the sound engineers that had come to work with them. Most artists had used the engineer provided by DHP (Martin) however for the more experienced artists such as Gabrielle Aplin and Tony Hadley, they had their own engineer, this meant that i could shadow some of the most successful engineers and learnt a number of interesting tricks used by each. Working Splendour has been a fantastic experience and I look forward to working Splendour again next year!
